PROTOTYPE STAGE.
Cross is awesome. That’s not a secret. Some of us even think that #crossisboss. And that means we need a cross bike. As with every bike we make, this is the bike we wanted to ride ourselves. As cyclists we always look for the bike that does what we want and not that we have to adapt to what the bike wants. For this special project we got together with a friend of ours who is framebuilder in Italy. We showed him our designs and geometry and simply told him what we want:
We want a badass cyclocross hitter that is not looking like an alien mutant transformer.
LET'S GET DIRTY.
As with every bike of course we went through a long prototype testing stage. And what can we say - bike testing is so much fun. Especially when testing means going out into nature exploring or racing awesome cyclocross events. We loved the bike right away and just needed some adjustements in the cable routing and brake mounting.
HANDMADE IN ITALY.
The Erdgeschoss (The name is quite funny in German. The actual meaning of the word is ground-floor but if you split it up “Erde” is soil and a “Geschoss” is a missile. Combine these two and it makes sense naming your cross bike like that. Explaining jokes isn’t cool but not letting you know the meaning is even worse.) is a special project. We sat together with a friend and framebuilder from Italy discussing what we want and what we need. We were directly on the same level with what we had in mind and he went to build the prototype. Being absolutely happy with it, despite to minor changes, we gave him the go to build the series. As he is building and painting the frames all by himself it was clear that it is going to be a super limited series. It’s made from Columbus Life tubing combined with a 3T tapered full carbon fork. The icing on the cake are the special dropouts our framebuilder used on our project. This amazing dropout system lets you use the Erdgeschoss as geared or single speed, adjust tire clearance and even tweak the geometry to your liking. The rear disc brake is mounted to the dropout so you can adjust chain tension without problems when riding SSCX.
The Erdgeschoss is completely built and painted in Italy.
The Erdgeschoss features the stiff 44mm oversized Columbus Life head tube and we combined it with the tapered 3T full carbon fork for extra stiffness. The BSA bottom bracket for us is the best choice for a bike that will be exposed to the harshest of conditions and is going to be constantly dirty and cleaned again. The frame is built for the SRAM CX1 group or any other 1x group. But due to the special dropouts it can also be used as a single speed cross bike.
Coming to the last step of the creation of a new bike we didn’t have to think long for a fitting paint job. As it’s made in Italy we wanted to give Italy a little shout out and our respect for their bike passion with this tricolore inspired colorway.
The Erdgeschoss is limited to 10 frames!
