The time had come for the second edition of our bike race party together with Stone Brewing Berlin and Marienpark Berlin. Even though we moved the event forward from September to August, we didn’t have much more luck with the weather than last year. After a sunny and promising start to the day, heavy winds and some rain rolled through.

But just as last year we didn’t let the weather ruin our party!

Just on time for the women’s fixed gear race the weather calmed down and we were good to go. A small but motivated field battled it out on the technical and already wet course. After several attacks from the Team Schindelhauer Gates teammates Karla Sommer and Sam Sandten, Sommer could ride solo to victory with Sandten coming in second and Maike Lange in third.

WOMEN Fixed

  1. Karla Sommer

  2. Sam Sandten

  3. Maike Lange

The men’s fixed gear race saw a strong field lining up with the 8bar Team having strength in numbers. Names like Ceresa, Heßlich, Seubert, Keinath, Kessler and Campbell-Williams were promising a great race. And they didn’t disappoint. The 8bar Team took control of the lead group with Daniel Campbell-Williams (Team Standert) and Timon Seubert (Suicycle Track Team) being the last ones to share the work to cover the constant attacks. Against all odds they closed all the gaps until they ran out of fire power. Then Robert Kessler showed his Deutschland Tour form and went solo. After Campbell-Williams and Seubert tried to bring him back Heßlich counter attacked and followed Kessler. Tim Ceresa rounded up the podium by winning the group sprint. Great tactics by the 8bar Team and hats off to the fight of Seubert and Campbell-Williams.

The road race saw a big men’s field and the three women that signed up racing together. As race organiser it’s difficult to deal with this few female registrations that’s why we let the signed up women decide what they prefered - racing alone or racing with the men. They decided to race with the men.

The big favorite was Erik Köhler, dominant winner of last year’s edition. Who could possibly stop him? To make things short: nobody could. Köhler dropped the hammer in the second lap and from then was on his (successful) solo mission to lap the entire field. Behind him the fight for the two remaining podium spots was on. Andreas Müller, Tim Ceresa and Daniel Campbell-Williams battled it out. As Köhler lapped the chase group Müller tagged onto his wheel and rolled away from Ceresa and Campbell-Williams, a sneaky move to be honest. But like that secured himself the second place. The fight for third was between Ceresa and Campbell-Williams, just like in the fixed gear race before. And again Ceresa could take the third spot on the podium.

In the women’s race Sam Sandten, who came in second in the fixed race before, took the win in dominant fashion ahead of Jule Borths and Christiane Holzheid.

  2. Andreas Müller 2. Jule Borths

  3. Tim Ceresa 3. Christiane Holzheid

We want to thank Stone Brewing Berlin and Marienpark Berlin for making this possible the second year in a row, thanks to all the friends that helped out setting the SBSB Crit up and thanks to Chris for another great performance on the mic.

Special thanks to our partners for equipping us with maybe the best prizes in bike racing.

Acros, Wahoo and Stone Brewing Berlin sponsored the prizes for the first places, Giro and Rapha for the second places and Muc Off for the third places.

Further they also made it possible for us to have a lot of exciting primes during the races. Thanks for your support!
