Last weekend it was on. THE race of the year was going to happen in Berlin. The Rad Race Fixed42 Worldchampionships.
In its second year the race already developed to a huge event with an international field of over 500 racers. All racing for glory on the last 42 kilometers of the course of the Velothon. Starting in Ludwigsfelde and finishing in the heart of Berlin. Everybody was so excited. Weeks before talks about gear ratios and tactics started to pop up and with all the big names, Red Hook Crit winners and pros lining up the day was going to be very special. And it was indeed. After three neutralized kilometers the racers were unleashed. Pushing massive gears they blew over the Autobahn at speeds in the mid 50s all the time. And even at that speed first moves were happening and breaks almost established with a stellar demonstration of power by Eike. But at those speeds the field rolled them in again. Then the first real move was happening at the Tempelhofer Airfield, where Marius Petrache and Jonas Schmeiser went clear and Maxe and Sille went directly after them and pulled Alex Müller, Christian Lademann and Luca Gibbin across to the leading duo. Eike being boxed in and not making it into the move knew what he had to do and controlled the pace of the raging field across the airfield, giving Silvio and his breakaway companions some seconds to work with. Now there was a group of seven riders, maybe the strongest seven riders of the field. They soon had a 20 second gap and managed to stay clear. They even had enough of a gap to play cat and mouse within the last two kilometers with nobody wanting to lead into the sprint. Then Sille went and opened up the sprint, unfortunately he couldn’t hold it to the end and got passed by Alex Müller (1st), Marius Petrache (2nd) and Maxe (3rd) in the last meters of this spectacular race. Peter, Alex and Magnus (who filmed the whole race) also did a great job and could stay safe as Silvio was in the group. Pöhli unfortunately got crashed out and is now recovering from a broken collarbone. In the womens race the pack was all together most of the time with Marion and Johanna doing most of the work and everybody else saving up for the final. In the end that made the difference and Marion unfortunately got outsprinted by Jasmine Dotti (1st), Juliet Eliott (2nd) and Carla Nafria de Miguel (3rd). Unfortunately the moto Consti was on was supposed to stay with the mens field, that’s why we have no coverage of the ladies. We are very sorry for this. Congratulations to the new Worldchampions Alex Müller and Jasmine Dotti. And of course congratulations to your new special edition Standert Umlaufbahn!
