PARKHOTEL MONDSCHEIN & THE LAST TUNNEL

A wrap up from the first Standert x Parkhotel Mondschein retreat in beautiful Bolzano.

It seems as if time never existed, as if this journey never happened. The legend of a tunnel bathed in red light, through which a group of people on racing bikes sped. Or maybe not? Did it really happen? Did we just imagine it? Was there perhaps a tear in the space-time continuum? Were we transported to an alternate reality? And when did it happen?

Many questions arise around what is essentially a simple concept: bringing people from the Standert community together at Hotel Mondschein in Bolzano to enjoy the pleasures of South Tyrol’s wellness oasis—local cuisine, physical activities like swimming and yoga, and, of course, some serious cycling.
The guests came from all across Germany and Switzerland, and there was a lot of positive vibes and laughter—at least until the first climb. That’s where the conversations and laughter stopped, and the soundscape turned into panting and heavy breathing. The climbs, with inclines of up to 19%, were definitely a challenge for everyone. Whether it were people, who enjoyed riding 12 minutes at 350 watts and managed to make their way onto a few Strava leaderboards, or less experienced climbers who collected elevation at their own pace, everyone was cheered and applauded.
By the end of the day, the collective always found a common denominator. The shared experiences were unique and wonderfully enhanced by the group dynamic. And then there was this last tunnel.

This tunnel led several kilometers through the mountain on the final descent and pushed participants to speeds of over 90 km/h. Fast, winding, adventurous, and bathed in red light, they shot through the tube, adrenaline practically pouring from their eyes. Everyone had the same experience, but no one took photos or videos. So, did it really happen? Was there really no content from perhaps the best moment of the trip? Was it worth leaving the highlight of the tour uncovered? Probably everyone who was there would answer this question with a yes.
