THE SHOW
We arrived in Vienna pretty late on Thursday and of course we first looked for a proper Schnitzel. We didn’t find one near our apartment and had some pizza instead. On Friday it was booth building time and setting everything up for the show that opened it’s doors to the press at 5pm. Our spot was perfect, directly at the entrance. In general the setting of the show was perfect. First you got through the event hall where also some food trucks were parked and then you got into the main hall.
We also were really impressed by the visitors at the first ever Wiener Fahrradschau. Everybody was super nice and as we heard from the organizers they were pretty happy with the amount of visitors. So hats off to Vienna! Further it was great fun to see a lot of our industry friends again (thanks for keeping us caffeinated Veletage and Rapha) and make new ones. And of course it was a pleasure to have almost-family-member Bulleit back at our booth.
THE RIDE
On Saturday there was a spontaneous ride, organized by our friends from BBUC. While Max, Maxe and Bene were jealously working at the show Jonas, Peter and Consti really deserved a ride after all their help. They went on a super nice route picked by the locals through the Wienerwald. Good thing Consti is the best photographer in the world (it’s a fact, we checked it) and took some photos to make us even more jealous afterwards.
THE RACE
Rad Race put in a huge effort to organize their first ever cyclocross race. And it was worth it! The course was super technical and the format made it even more fun to watch. It was a relay race. Always two riders together, racing one lap each and then change. We had (kind of) three teams in there. Marion and Sami (8bar Team). Peter and Jonas. Eike and Paolo (Team Cinelli Chrome).
Those who started in a costume got a 30 second advantage in the qualifying. All three teams qualified easily. The races were action packed. In the women’s race Marion and Sami were leading the entire race with a good gap until Marions bike lost the fight against the tough course and she had to borrow another one (thanks Stefan). They fought hard and finished second!
In the men’s race Eike and Paolo took the lead directly and Jonas and Peter were not far behind sitting comfortably in third position. But then the bad luck got them and Jonas had a flat. Peter had to put in a massive effort and race four laps in a row until the tire of Jonas was changed. Like that they lost some positions but still finished 9th. And won the Top Antagonist Award. Eike and Paolo put on a good show of strength and technique and won the first Rad Race Radcross in Vienna. Time to party!
